Biography

Nephew of William H. Seward. Lived in New Jersey until he was appointed the U.S. Consul in Candia, Crete from 1858 to 1861. He was then the U.S. Consul in Foochow (Fuzhou), China from 1866 to 1867, where he died and is buried.
