Jan'y 26th
I had almost purchased a churning
machine which I saw at the Capital today.
It goes by clockwork. You put your cream
into the churn, wind up the clock, and
when it runs down you take out the butter.
Today I ^had^ invited Granger
Birth: 1789-06-03 Death: 1866-08-20
to dine. Mather
Birth: 1796-02-13 Death: 1868-07-11
had
invited some, Andrews
Birth: 1796-10-16 Death: 1863-06-11
others, and Henry Webb
Birth: 1795-04-05 Death: 1846-10-12

some others and so we made up a dozen.

is the only man whose entire confidence
I have or who has mine. He tells me all his
own feelings. He is generous in act, word, and
thought, though a most wonderfully skillful
politician he is moved by his feelings only,
and those are disinterested. He has spent
his life in building up his friends without
care for himself.
