Sunday, Dec 11th
My Dear Henry, I have put the little girl
in the cradle in order to steal a few moments to write
to you - the helps are all gone to church. I find Laura
but a poor substitute for Mrs Benedict
nothing of the latter since she went home. The day
is beautiful - a bright warm sun and the mildness
of the air tempted me out this morning, but I did
not venture beyond the gate. Clary

to dispose of their furniture and next week they
all go to Canandagua. Peter has been telling me a
long story to day about the pumps in front of the
office he says Pa
them yesterday. Isaack Miller
upon putting them down again which Pa opposes
but it is Peters opinion that they will have their
own way. This may appear more intelligible to
you than it does to me if you are acquainted
with any previous circumstances which will afford
you any light on the subject. Laura talks all the
time to me while I am writing (she has just returned
from church) about the Roman Catholicks - she is a
wonderfully ignorant girl does not at the age of
16 know the commandments, but is quite ready to
pick the mote from a brothers eye - poor human nature.
