Thursday night.
My dear Jennings,
On the preceding pages you have first a notice
as to the bill which may received in payment. You may
receieve U.S. Notes and send them directly to Batavia.
Under the 2d clause I trust you will have little business
to do, I hope there will be none, but it is necessary to use
more excuses by these might pretend a willingness
to pay. Should you get any amount of uncertainty
under this clause you may go to Buffalo, find as honest
a broker as you can and sell what you have and arrange
for future sales. If Mr Tucker
Birth: 1805-10-05 Death: 1874-04-25Certainty: Probable
wishes he can arrange with the broker for Lumbermans money. We must stop altogether
taking it, and all others ^incurrent^ or on our account.
Write to the Bank at Erie wheth to ask whether they will redeem
equal to 1 1/2 issue N. York, if so arrange with them.
On reflection, I think it will be only necessary to get 300-
400 or less of the notices printed at Mayville. Let Henry Smith
Death: 1850-08-12
copy it and have a fair copy to show while the Sentinel
is getting it out, and begin immediately.
Get by previous bargain as to the price 200 or 300 of the
stipulations of both Kinds printed & be ready to practice on
that principle when required. They are to be annexed to the contract
or the bond – and a memorandum of the same made on the
statement which the obligor Keeps.
I saw Walter Smith
Birth: 1800-03-21 Death: 1874-09-21
at New York- he says his noteshall be paid - he goes up this week- write to him next week
for the money.
Yours affectionately
W.H. Seward.
