Dear Henry
Your request to send P.
yesterday (mailed the 1st) after the mail
to his place had started. A short
hour intervened only, before the starting
of the steamer W.H.S. – but short as it
was a swift horse made it sufficient
for me to reach the boat and I saw
him last evening – and he is gone.
Judging it to be important that
the true state of affairs in the county
should be known, I had explained
the reason of it to Ruggles

latter by a written spe address) to show
that "this county will give a full
whig vote for whichever of the Candi-
dates was spoken of shall be nom-
inated. This is as far as I could

properly go – but they are perfectly prepa-
red to say that of the Candidate best
known to them should be proposed
they will swell his majority by at
least 500. All is here well here.
We have been receiving a shower
of little sums for semmi anual interest
this week, averaging some four
hundred dollars – per day.

ly harmonious between us
but if he were a clerk of
mine I would cut him off
this night.
