Honored Patroness
Excuse my gross neglect in not returning
you a written message yesterday evening, important business that I had
at the moment banished from my mind a duty I so deservedly owe
you. Accept my best thanks for your very kind letter, and likewise
for the kindness you have always shown me. I am fully sensible of
the regard you have expressed for my sister
Unknown
; hearing that you hadbeen very ill, but, that your health was improving, also the kind
invitations you once or twice gave me to bring her to see you, prompted
us to call at the time we did. My sister, at any future time when
your health will admit, will feel highly honored to make your
acquaintance. Allow me, Mrs. Seward, to correct your calculation
of my services: in the last course you received but four lessons, for which
you more than paid me, if you recollect, at the time I thought of
leaving Auburn; excuse me therefore for having returned the money
you had the kindness to send. I am indeed gratified to hear that
you are fast recovering. That health and happiness may be yours,
will ever be the wish of your humble
and obedient servant Wm Roberts.
