Florida 4 th Jan 1840
My dear W. Henry –
George M. Grier
Birth: 1802-09-27 Death: 1878-12-20
Esq has been some
time before the public as a Candidate for
the Surrogates Office – And I know of no man
with whom there has been so general a burst
of applause and approbation of the sub-
stanial inhabitants of the County as M r Grier
I have examined the names of the
Petitioners in his favour in the different
Towns of the County, and have not the least
hesitation in saying they are the most
respectable worthy businessmen the
different Towns afford I have been
long and intimately acquainted with
a large proportion of the subscribers to
those petition, and unhesitately say
they are the bone and sinew of the Whig
cause in the County – With such a
support I shall be at a loss to to know
how M r Grier can help succeeding —
Most affectionately
yours Saml S Seward
