Letter from Benjamin Jennings Seward to Frances Miller Seward, December 8, 1840 is written on the reverse of this page.
Dear Henry
I have opened my letter
of last evening to say that I am this
morning informed that the negotiation of
which I spoke in a former letter, is
broken off: Mr King
examination that it is out of his beaten
track—and he is indisposed to venture.
It is now said, that attempts will be
made in Boston. I believe there is
a good deal of uneasiness among gen-
tlemen here. I have called, this
morning—am to call again at twelve—
but it is Packet day & it will be of
little avail.
Yours Gratefully
