Dear Gov
There has been a mistake about this lot of yours, Mr Patter-
son
him answer on his way home, this letter I recd this morning: Mr
P. came up Saturday afternoon, and Mr Gibson
to close the bargain, being unwilling to do so in the absence
of Mr Higham who is authorised to make these bargains
and not knowing when the lease expired, Mr P said he
could not wait but must go to Chatauque & raise the money
to bid in the premises: and intimated
bound by the barg proposition to take $3,500, in case he was
then unable to close the bargain, I was then well convinced
from previous conversations with Mr Higham that the Co would
pay $3,500, but could not take upon myself to give such an
assurance, and Mr G being ignorant about the lease would
not consent to close the bargain; The company will pay
the $3,500, and I hope you will write Mr Patterson at Auburn
to deliver the deed on recpt of that sum, Mr Higham
has been willing to advance the money to raise the mortgage
and all the mistakes & misunderstanding if there is
any arisen from my not receiving Mr Ps letter.
The company will be disappointed unless you now
take the $3,500, and under the circumstances I think
you will do so without hesitation. The Compy will have
an agent at Auburn on the 16 to pay the money
Fred
home this morning.
all well
