My dear Wm Henry
The return of Augustus
Albany affords me an opportunity of expressing to you one
of the greatest wonders that ever come to my knowledge viz
that Augustus Seward married last September —With the
view I had of this young relative I confess I was immensely
disappointed — I fondly anticipated that he would
become a prop & assistant in our declining years
These hopes are blasted but as he says this was a
business of his own and he consulted no one relative
it, I have no reason to complain
Our Elections too have gone against us and
the probability is the state has gone against us
and that our beloved Union will revert back
into the hands of Loco Focoism— What is to be the
result of all this Are we to go on step by step
blindfolded untill the last Jewel of liberty &
independence is arested from the people!
I hope not, I will have confidence in that
providence which has hitherto protected us

Since you visited us our dear Mary
company with her grand Pa Mr
Underhill
She seems to be a pleas ^ant^ good Girl and
well accomplished — We are now
looking daily for a visit from our
Old and tryed friends Silas Horton Esq
and his Lady
how much pleasure we take in entertaining
our friends — The Hudson and Erie Rail
Road exude the most sanguine expectations
of all its friends & enamies — Will not the state
take hold of this stupendous work and carry
it spedely through — The people are an[ xi ]
Reason: ous
for this measure but a few interest directors
are loth to give up the cessions and which
dazele in their eyes — Once through to Sanduscie
and it will be one of the greatest roads in the
world — It has already raised the value of
property and given a new impetus to Old Orange

I have written to D. Graham Jr Esq agreeable
to your direction — Will you take the trouble
to write to Mess Bate
them on in this Suit —
Will you not permit Augustus
spend some time with us in the first vacation we
should be pleased to have him with us —
Give affection to Frances
Yours Truly
