Florida 16 June 1842
My dearest Henry
I still exist and am through
the mercy of a Kind providence able to
attempt to write you but it can be but a few
lines – I was sorry to learn by your last
letter the circumstances that by ague you
had been confined three days from your
business – and especially as this deprived me
of a visit – Augustus
New York this morning found at the
Depot your box of C[ r ]
Reason: holeanberrys – This is a
most valuable pre[ se ]
Reason: holent in my situation
for which I most K[ in ]
Reason: holedly thank you
My fever & great heat in my system
has abated but a severe pain in my side
with soreniss and an inclination to adhesion
of the parts is distressing — I can eat nothing
to support me – am literally too weak to
live with frequent faint turns that indicate
speedy dissolution – I have, been put in the
coach and road out several times but
with no increas of strength
I am looking for a visit from you on
Saturday next or as soon as will suit your
convenience – I have a few ideas I cannot
communicate on paper – Your dear Ma
feeble – Leslie
break down – I have not attempted to do
business –
Your Affectionate but very
afflicted Father
