Schenectady November 20th 1845
Dear Brother
I have just received your letter
and sit down to answer it as soon as possible
as I may not again have time to write
before I return home. We have been quite
busy lately in preparing for examination which
takes place tomorrow so that tomorrow night
I intend starting for home. The term closes
this year somewhat earlier than usual, so that
the students from the eastern states can get home
to Thanksgiving which comes on next Thursday.
The weather here has been rather cold lately
and we have had several white frosts. Father
passed through here two or three weeks ago
and on his return stopped here four or five
hours. He said that Grandfather Seward
very infirm, and that he was going down to
see him again in a few weeks. I hope you are

better pleased with the West-Point than you formerly
were, since you have become accustomed to it.
I hear that they are all well at home from
a letter from Mother
two ago.
Your affectionate brother
Frederick Seward
