Tuesday Dec 12th
My Dear Henry,
The dress came yester-
day is very pretty – Our dark
skies continue but the weather
is somewhat colder – I have
some misgivings about the
operation of Mr McGregors
furnace – but perhaps we do
not yet understand how to
manage it properly – Do
not pay for it until you
come home – I hear nothing
more from Flatbush – the
reports of cholera make me
anxious about you all –

fourth birth day passed
last Saturday with much
pleasure to the little folks

without intermitting –
Clarence

is writing at the
office - He has a prospect
for f going to the Cherry Valley
law school which he will
tell you when you come
home – He has a letter
from Florida– I wish if
the river is not closed
and you can, you would
go there before you return –
Augustus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
said nothing in
particular that I could
learn about the state of
affairs, but they were constantly
looking for you – The attack
of Neuralgia which I had, induces
me to abandon the idea of going
Page 3

there this Winter – The neuralgia
continues though in a mitigated
form – No precautions are taken
here against the cholera as
in 1832 – Every one taking
it for granted that we shall
escape as we did at that time.
The coal comes but not
as you directed it is
unbroken – Mention this to
Mr Maury
Unknown
– perhaps he
is not aware of it – Of course
he will make a reduction
of the price – I hope to see
you before Christmas but
cannot if your stay at Wash-
ington is much prolonged–
Fanny dreams almost every
night that her Father is
home – If you see Mrs
Taylor
Birth: 1788-09-21 Death: 1852-08-14
again say that I am
much obliged by the selec-

tion of the dress –
ever your own
