Paterson Oct 10th 1849
My Dear Uncle,
Since I wrote the last
letter to you about the Post Office, I have
heard that Doct Weller
favor of a Wm Dickey
gets the office, so a competent person gets it.
The office is in Bad hands, letters are not
sent at the right time, and persons have
found letters advertised after they had
Enquired after them Day after day, Dickey is
an Educated man and been very fit for the
office and would satisfy the people in Town
Better than any other Whig, D.S. Gregory
Gov Pennington
appointed, Please write soon
Your Affectionate Nephew
A. Canfield
Hon Wm H Seward
