Washington April 7th
My dear Clara,
Another week has passed yet
I seem to be no nearer home – I am
waiting to learn something of the move–
ments of Augustus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
– If he is on his way
here I am unwilling to that he come
and find me gone – I think I must
hear something in the course of another
week which will enable me to determine
when I will leave – I think I cannot
in any event wait longer than the
last of this month – So far the weather
has been too cold I presume at the North
to allow of housecleaning – I am glad
to hear that Dennis
Birth: 1827
took his cousin
Unknown

with him – If she is at our house and
wants employment let her clean the
out houses – the wood house and carriage
house chambers, the soap house & Dennis’
bed room – Whenever the weather is suitable
I would like to have Maria commence
with the inside of the house – She
will know what ought to be done

to most of the rooms – the other girls

can
help her at least one of them – I wish
you to have as little trouble as possible
and would not suggest cleaning at all
until I come home – but one month
will not suffice to clean the whole of
our house and the weather in June is
generally too warm - Lazette
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
writes
me that she has no girl which will
probably prevent her coming back
immediately – We have had unpleasant
weather for two weeks past – Our family
x Birth: 1844-12-09  Death: 1866-10-29  Birth: 1801-05-16  Death: 1872-10-10

are all well again – Caroline
Birth: 1834-07-25 Death: 1922-02-28
went
back to Georgetown last Monday –
Mr Calhoun
Birth: 1782-03-18 Death: 1850-03-31
was buried Tuesday – his
remains were deposited in a vault
to be removed – Fanny is impatient
to get home – she misses Willie
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29

Tell Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
he must answer this letter
and let me know whether he sent
those shirts - I am much obliged to him
for his last letter – I hope Willie is
a good boy and does not neglect his
lessons – Please to give my love to Mrs Miller
Birth: 1785-04-24 Death: 1870-04-17Certainty: Possible

when you see her – affectionately yours,
Frances
