My dear Uncle,
We expect Kossuth
are preparing to give him the best reception we
can arrange.
You recollect you made us a promise
last fall that when Kossuth should come you
would endeavor to be here too. Every one asks me now
if you are coming, and when I ignore your
intentions they say “We need him” Your presence
here has been relied on by the friends of Kossuth
and your advent in time to be present at his
reception, would be a gratification to every one
and especially to
Your ever grateful Nephew
Clarence.
the Honorable,
William H. Seward.
U.S. Senator
Washington
(D.C.)
