Auburn Jan 23rd
My dear Son,
I have your second letter
from Key West of Jan 5th
We have had here all varieties
of weather – some very cold —
the snow melted away last
week but we have a little
more now. Your Father
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
returned
to Washington the 13th–Mr
Sackett
Birth: 1811-11-18 Death: 1895-09-06
met him at Philadelphia
went on with him and is
still there — Mr Schoolcraft
Birth: 1804-09-22 Death: 1860-06-07

has been there a week or ten
days – Mr Weed
Birth: 1797-11-15 Death: 1882-11-22
was there
during your fathers absence.
About the 4th or 5th Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
and
Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
were recalled to Albany
by the death of Mrs Whartons
Birth: 1812-10-29 Death: 1889-10-09

brother, Mr Boyd
Birth: 1818-01-17 Death: 1855-01-04
, who lived
in New York – He was

unmarried, supported his
mother
Birth: 1781-11-22 Death: 1860-11-20
and a maiden sister
Birth: 1806-01-26 Death: 1873-07-21

who with Mr
Birth: 1818 Death: 1889-10-26
& Mrs Van Vorst
Birth: 1815-04-14 Death: 1855-05-17

(another sister) all lived in
the house with him – He
was a favourite of the family
and seems to have been
generally esteemed —
Fred has not been able to
come and see us yet – Mr
Weed has been absent and
Dawson
Birth: 1813-03-14 Death: 1883-02-17
is engaged with
Legislative reporting.
Nothing new has taken place
here except the failure of
Stephen Goodwin
Birth: 1807-11-26 Death: 1879-05-13
– there is
much complaint made of
his dealing unfairly with his
creditors — He has gone to
Detroit – his family
x Birth: 1837-11-18  Death:   Birth: 1836-03-09  Death:   Birth: 1808-09-10  Death:
are to
follow — If you see
any papers you will read

accounts of the destitution &
suffering of thousands of poor in
the city of New York, chiefly
the foreign population – The
pressure on the money market
has thrown thousands out of em-
ployment and left them dependent
upon public Charity —
Mrs Day
Birth: 1824 Death: 1881-01-22
has spent a week with
Frances
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
at Canandaigua – the house
is finished and furnished, heated
with furnaces and lighted with gas
Frances has not been out this
Winter — Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
remains with us —
Aunt Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
is well excepting
a cold which does not confine
her to the house — she sends love —
as do Aunty & Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
– Write
a line whenever an opportunity offers
it is a welcome assurance of
your safety – May God bless
and protect you
Mother —

My health is better than it has
been in two years —
