My dear uncle,
Will you permit me to call
your attention by letter to an affair of mine
about which I intended to speak to you
on your expected return here.
You may recollect that a few
days before my leaving Auburn I
asked you if I could obtain a loan of
from the estate of $1000. You kindly
assented to the same and I wrote to
Mr Grier
Birth: 1802-09-27 Death: 1878-12-20
that you had done so, asked him
for the money and offered him any
security that he desired. He wrote me
that when the estate had any money
I could have what I wished. I saw
him the day after Fred's
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
wedding and
he assured me as I thought positively
that I could have the desired amount
by the first of January. So thinking
I obtained the amount elsewhere. That
will become due ere long and I
would be gratified if the first or
tenth of april next will place me in
possession of the certainty I hoped to
enjoy on the first of January.
Mr Grier called on me a few days
ago and said he thought he could
let me have the money by the first
of april. If it is meek and proper
so to do will you please write to him
to send me the money if he can
get it by that day. I will give
my note secured by any endorser
you may desire, or by a pledge of
my mortgage upon the Round Hill
Farm, or by the Goodwin
Unknown
mortgage
or by the mortgage upon my old
house in Auburn, or by such stocks as I have.
I would not trouble you at all about
this matter if I had not before spoken
to you about it and if I had not
the money to pay in a few days.
Ever gratefully
Your Nephew
Clarence A. Seward
