My Dear Mrs Seward,
Of late I have been divorced
absolutely from the inkstand, or
you would have heard from me. I
have recd your kind notes; but
was admonished to forego for a
while all letter-writing.
At last I am regaining my
strength; but slowly, very slowly.
My system had been so far pros-

trated, that I am to go through
all the stages of an invalid before
my restoration will be established.
My physician
be before September; but I am
hoping for better fortune, that
I may take my seat in the
Senate during the present session.
In a few days I leave for
mountain-air—stopping on
the way in Philadelphia, with
Revd Wm H Furness
been my good Samaritan.

P.S. My Phila physician
understands my case, says that
I have no organic or functional
derangement of the system—only
a severe debility, indicated by
a weak pulse & disordered nerves,
& a general weakness.
