Auburn Aug 17–
My dear Son,
We are preparing
for an illumination to
night – the message
came too late last
evening – I for one
shall be glad when
it is over –The bells
and the reception of
messages by your
Father
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
kept me up
much of last night –
It is certainly a great
occasion but then
one
Page 2

gets tired of great
occasions and
celebrations when
they come so often
I have been slow to
believe it would succeed
since the second
failure – I hope much
good may result
from it –Your
father has been talking
of going to Albany
for a week past – I
think he will go this
week – We have
had much company
Page 3

since I wrote –
to day the third
dinner party – Uncle
George
Birth: 1808-08-26 Death: 1888-12-07
has been here
a week – he left us
yesterday morning, with
the promise of another
visit soon – Mr Sackett
Birth: 1790-08-09 Death: 1865-06-02

has been here one
night – Gov King
Birth: 1817-07-14 Death: 1900-11-21

and his secretary
Unknown

are here – When
are you coming home?
we shall be alone
next week if your
Father goes away –
Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
went back to

Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
& Fanny
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
are both
somewhat unwell – but
better than yesterday –
Aunty is coming down
this evening – Fanny
went to church this
morning when the messages
were read – Aunt Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05

is well – Catherine
Birth: 1825 Death: 1898
has
moved and is to come
home this week –
Shall I direct to Sauger-
-ties? I see your letter
was mailed at Tivoli
Fanny sends love
God bless you
Mother –
