Sunday —12 th
My dear Sister
Your letter of Wednesday
came yesterday with a very funny
one from Trip
Birth: 1851-06-13 Death: 1862
to Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
— I am
sorry to hear you have been sick
with a cold — I have hardly
yet recovered from mine I hope
yours will not last as long —
I drove out yesterday and the
day previous both times coming
home with nervous headache
I concluded not to go to Church
to day — Fanny and Henry
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
went
Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
is very busy copying Henry's
speech on the Amistad question
which comes up this week — Will
works all the time — I am
surprised that his eyes have not

failed him entirely — I have just been
writing to Augustus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
— He writes me
again from Charleston where he took
the steamer for Key West — I hope
soon to hear of his safe arrival there —
Mr Murray
Birth: 1807-11-27 Death: 1885-11-08
and Mr Morgan
Birth: 1811-02-08 Death: 1883-02-14
dined
with us to day — we hear that George
Underwood
Birth: 1816-01-04 Death: 1859-05-25
has gone to Cuba

Cuba

for his
health — I remember you told me you
thought he had consumption — Mr
Morgan thinks he will not recover —
There is a rumour that Lord Napier
Birth: 1819-09-19 Death: 1898-12-19

is to be recalled — nothing official
communicated yet as I learned
from Lady Napier
Birth: 1823-12-20 Death: 1911-08-24
— I went in
to see Mrs Schoolcraft
Birth: 1815 Death: 1878-03-12
yesterday — She
talked as much as usual — among
other things she told me that Mrs
Hurlburt
Birth: 1802 Death: 1891-03-22
whose daughter
Birth: 1831-12-03 Death: 1852-01-06
John School-
-craft
Birth: 1829-10-02 Death: 1865-04-28
was to have married was a

sister of her husbands
Birth: 1793-03-28 Death: 1864-12-19
— So Miss
Hurlburt was John’s own cousin —
did you know this? Our house grows
to be more comfortable as the furnishing
progresses — Kate
Birth: 1837 Death: 1878-04-08
and I worked one
day undoing and doing over the
work of the Upholster on the curtains
Henry begins to talk of New Years — If
Mrs Bowen
Birth: 1816 Death: 1872-07-15
does not come before
that time he talks of sending for
Mary Grier
Birth: 1839-09-05 Death: 1930-06-04
— I hope they will not
both come at one time as we shall
have no place for them — I wish I could
be at home and have a bowl of
Cleo’s milk which I miss more than
any thing else on the table — It is pleas-
-ant to hear of the comfort of Nep
Birth: 1856 Death: 1859-11-09
&
the cats
Unknown
— Yesterday I went to Claggett’s
Birth: 1792 Death: 1860-10-01

for bed room curtains, door mats
towels and tea cloths — it was
cold, freezing then, but warmer to day

The Carriage & Horses & Nicholas
Birth: 1801-12-24 Death: 1893-02-15

are much more respectable in appearance
than our establishment last year —
Lewis is at work at the Livery
stable — Kate bought a feather bed
for Nicholas yesterday — The auction
-eer
Unknown
was much more civil to her
than he would have been to me —
Kate is well except occasional
neuralgia — and very handsome
It is getting dark is one reason
I write so badly — We have
no butter yet from Orange County
Polydore
Birth: 1799 Death: 1872-04-23
could not furnish any
and failed to let us know — George
Grier
Birth: 1802-09-27 Death: 1878-12-20
is to send some — Bell
Birth: 1858
is very
cunning with his pranks— Fanny
sends love to you & Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
with
mine — Will too — Henry would
I presume if he had time your own
Sister —

[right Margin] I found the chain in Fanny’s drawer
put there by mistake unpacking—

[top Margin] I wrote to Mrs
Watson
Birth: 1812-03-30 Death: 1893-11-13
last
week
