My dear Father
I send you
this evening a box containing
four fish taken by myself
out of the St Lawrence to day.
Will you please send part of
them to Mrs Watson
Clayton is a small town on
the American bank of the St
Lawrence River and directly
in the midst of the Thousand
Islands. We arrived here
last evening and have been spending
a very noisy fourth, we start
for Montreal tomorrow morning
where we hope to find letters from
home. we shall remain there until
Saturday and then take the
boat for Quebec, returning to

Montreal about the middle
or latter part of the week.
My address will be Colemans
Montreal House. Please ask
Fred
telegraph me in regard to Cornings
health.

the rough motion of the boat,

The archivists marks this letter as being written in 1861, however, there are
multiple letters (from Fanny Seward, for example, to William Henry Seward Jr. in
Montreal) that indicate William Henry Seward Jr. took this trip to Quebec in
1860. Therefore Frances Adeline Miller Seward has noted the correct date.
