Dear Fanny,
I was very glad to receive
your letter yesterday of Jan 2nd and
see that you are enjoying yourself
at Auburn where you will spend the
winter.
The worst part of the winter is over
here I think, moderate weather
will commence next month, the
winters are not as long as with
you though we have considerable
Snow and some pretty cold weather.
We have had a great many
Indians in here during the last
two weeks as the Chiefs
Unknown
have come
in to talk with the Commanding
Officer
Birth: 1804-02-17 Death: 1862-06-07
. They bring in deer and antelope
skins to sell also some blankets, they
having plenty of sheep and manufac-
turing the blankets they wear them-
selves. They all have horses and
are more civilized than the Indians
in Texas or Utah.
I suppose you do not know as yet
whether you will stay in Auburn
all Summer or go to Washington.
Your Affectionate Brother
Augustus
