Tuesday. 26 th
My dearest Henry
I was so disturbed
by the accounts from
Washington that I
passed an almost
sleepless night. I
do not like to feel
that you are surrounded
by such a lawless
population - attempted
and threatened assassination
seem the order of this
day. Your letter
of Saturday came
last evening to confirm
Page 2

the report brought
us by the Telegraph.
I try to hope the
4 th may be safely
passed.
I fear I may be
throwing too much
labour and responsibility
on Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
by staying
here - if you think
so let me know
and I will come
down - some of this
work I am engaged in
is completed - the
remainder I can put
off until the 1 st of April

Both Col Carpenter
Birth: 1821 Death: 1885-10-25

& Father Creedon
 Death: 1870-05-08

are going to Washington
some time after the
Inauguration. I could
come with one of them.
I have been in better
health than last Winter
and can do more.
Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
and Aunty
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
send
love. William
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
will
be in Washington
Saturday night.
May God protect
you all.
Your own
Frances
