Washington
April 21.
My dearest Frances.
The telegraph connection
is cut off – and that of the mails.
A special messenger takes this
to deposit in Post Office. &
You will naturally hear
news exaggerated – But we are
all well and doing well –
I don't write more particularly
as the conveyance is uncertain –
and the public would attach
too much importance to what I wrote.
