My dear Son
We were all much
pleased with the photograph,
I cannot imagine any
thing prettier than
Anna
Our latest accounts
from Washington tell
of the death of Col.
Elsworth
progress of the War
in Virginia – War
war how barborous
it is in its best guise
even without the added
horrors of treachery
and assassination

I feel as if you are
all living near
the crater of an active
volcano.
I have two letters from
Father
have been sick the
last 10 days.
Mrs. Dennis
last Tuesday –
Mr Doty
he is to be buried to
day–
Col. J. M. Sherwood
has lost his little
boy
Col. Carpenter
on his mission yes
Friday –
Will
to Albany the same day

returning last evening.
Clarence
I have not seen him
since last month.
I wish you could all
see the garden now
it is so pretty – My
illness has retarded the
labyrinth but I hope
to finish it this week –
I will write to Anna
in a few days.
God bless & keep
you all –
Mother –
