My dear Mother,
I think Gus
must be on his way home by
this time. He had received his
orders to come simultaneously with
his appointment, and only remained
because Col Loring
As Col L. has “seceded,” resigned
& gone South, and as the troops in
New Mexico are all to come home
I think Gus must be coming.
By way of Fort Leavenworth they

will be able to come through
Kansas & Missouri without
interruption. . One of the Texas
officers
here tells me he was with Gus
at Fort Defiance last winter.
