My dear son
I have a number
of letters to thank you
for – the last came
Sunday morning – I
hope Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
will not get sick if she does
she must come North –
Just now we are having
a cold rain storm
which makes fires necessary
to comfort – it seems
strange that it can
be too warm anywhere
Yesterday morning Aunt
Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
& Eliza Horner
Birth: 1807 Death: 1876-10-31
went to Tarrytown
I have been ill two
days – I thought of
going with them as far as
Albany and making
H. Weed
Birth: 1819-02-06 Death: 1893-11-01
a short visit – If I survive the 4th in
a condition for traveling
I may meet them there
on the return – Harriett
sends me word she is
at home –
I have a letter from
Augustus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
which came while Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
was gone dated at Santa Fe this
3d of June – he was
then going to Ft. Fuantleroy
for 2 weeks – had just
returned from Ft Stanton
The hazard of traveling
in New Mexico seems
rather to increase with
the unsettled state of
affairs – I want Augustus
to come home but I
hope he will not be
induced by the prospect
of useless promotion to
change hi his present
position in the Army –
which he has so long
desired – Tell him so
if he comes to Washington
for me –
Fanny wished to write to
Eliza thanking her for her
remembrance but did not
have time amid the
preparation for her visit.
Will & Jenny
Birth: 1839-11-18 Death: 1913-11-09
had
a party last evening
chiefly Jenny’s family –
the anniversary of their
marriage was the
occasion – I presume
it was pleasant – No
one is yet up in this
house to tell me –
Calamity & I are in the
writing chairs in Father’s
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
room – she crowds me so
I cannot write easily –
Love to Father & Anna
May God preserve you
all– Mother –
I continue to send this
very pleasing speculation
of Mr McKay
Birth: 1814-03-27 Death: 1889-12-24
in American affairs –
