Washington, Wednesday
My dear Mother,
As more reliable information
is gathered, our loss in killed and wounded
is stated to be less and less. Stragglers continue
to come in. Many supposed to be lost prove
safe.
The troops at first utterly broken and
demoralized are beginning to resume some
order and discipline in their camps.
A number of Regiments from the
North will probably arrive to day.
