Washington, Aug. 26th
My dear Mother,
Father
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
is hoping
to get away some day this
week, in order to visit home.
Failing in that, he says
he shall write for you
and Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
to come down.
The extreme heat is over,
and we are having cool, pleasant
days. – The troops are coming
in by thousands, and the
military men are so confident
in the sufficiency of their
preparations, that they begin
to hope the Confederates will
attack, instead of fearing it.
But no evidences of such
intention appear.
Affectionately your son
Frederick
