Fanny’s
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
basque – this
is what is used.
They tell me that
cloth off the same peice
would not match that
which has been worn.
I will send a pattern
of a cape – it must be
cut with a seam down
the back, so that the
stripes in the plush will
come together so –

Editorial Note

Anna Wharton Seward draws three downward facing triangles
) –
a narrow strip can be
put on the sleeves to
correspond.

I think the basque
altered in this way will
be much prettier than
a cloak & warmer.
I write in haste,
the carriage has come
to take me back to
the farm – I came in
last evening.
I expect to return to
Washington next week.
Have you any objection
to my taking Maggie
Boyd
