My dear Father
I was delight-
ed to receive General Scotts

which came last night, as
did the cards of Mr

Mrs Mackay
Unknown
. The things
you have already sent me
are beginning to form a
very valuable collection by
themselves. You may
believe it was tantalizing
to have you as near as N.
York , and no nearer, how-
ever I am looking forward
to being in Philadelphia
soon, where the distance
that separates us will
not be so great. It is
now less than three weeks
from the time we think
to depart.

is very handsome and

at his house – so we did
not see it.
Today has been very fine
The garden is deserted –
the flower beds all covered
with leaves – not deserted
either, for a party of visit-
ors, nine in number went
over it yesterday.
