Middletown, Sept. 24: 1862.
My Dear Uncle,
The Sullivan County regiment is nearly
complete: and Governer Morgan
Birth: 1811-02-08 Death: 1883-02-14
has promised the
warcommittee, and individual gentlemen of this place, to
commission Colonel Dewitt
Birth: 1817-07-10 Death: 1889-02-26
immediately upon his
beingtransferred by the War Department.
Governer Morgan is represented to me as gratified
with the proposed arrangement. But the understanding
here is that the Governer cannot issue a commission until
Dewitt is released from his present position.
Very Respectfully and affectionately,
Your nephew,
Augustus Seward.
The Honorable
William H Seward.
