Washington Dec 6/62
My dear Mother
I am still in the
City although I am about well
again I shall probably return
to camp Monday or Tuesday
This is one of the most disagreeable
days we have had this season, it
snowed all day yesterday and to day it
is turning into mud, I expect it will
make the roads very bad, I am quite
anxious to return to camp as I have yet
to build winter quarters for the men.
If I can obtain board near by I shall
have Jenny
think it prudent – say about Christmas
I think I could meet her in N York
on that day, will you not be ready to
come by that time? I think we could have
a very pleasant Christmas at the Astor
House! but I am not sure that I can
obtain board for her yet Your affectionate Son
