My dear Son
I have not answered
your letter as my
nights and most
of my days are
occupied with the
care of Will
His fever is remittent,
the Dr
I think typhoid
in its character –
His previous illness ex-
hausted his strength
and when the artificial
strength, induced by

stimulants failed, he
was greatly prostrated –
He has not sat up
since last Monday, once
only sat up in bed,
an accession of fever
was the consequence –
The least motion produces
headache – Last night
he slept better than before
but his sleep at best is
disturbed and unrefreshing
He appears to have a little
less fever to day – the Dr
thinks there will be a
gradual decrease until
it leaves him – He has
neither vomiting or
diarrhea – this is
favourable —

I only leave his bedside when
Jenny
place – sleep on a couch
in the room – In the
last three or four days the
Dr has interdicted company –
it was very necessary –
he cannot recover unless
kept quiet – Should
he be any worse or
in any immediate danger I shall tel-
egraph – Aunty
once or twice every day –
The weather is charming
I hope it will not
be the last this Autumn
I so want Will to
enjoy it —

The newspapers tell of
premeditated attack upon
Washington – I hope our
Army may be sufficiently
strong to repel them –
Love to all – and
blessings – Mother
