My dear Mother
We have your letter
of last Tuesday and are looking
anxiously for another with later and
we hope better news from Will
Miss Cushman
are again with us, having come back
from Baltimore yesterday. Last night
she played Lady Macbeth for the
benefit of the Sanitary Commission

We all went to see it. The house was
full and the receipts between $1800
and $1900. After the performance we
had supper, and in consequence are up
rather late this morning. To night we
all dine at Lord Lyons’
she leaves for Baltimore, where she
is to play tomorrow night.
The Army is back upon its old
ground near Manassas. The attempt
of the enemy to flank it and cut

off its communications seems to have
been baffled, and it is now to be
seen whether he
for another Northern raid
The diplomatic correspondence is being
prepared for publication at the opening
of the session. The first of the proof
sheets came yesterday from the printer
It promises to be even a larger volume
than last year.
