My dear Fred,
I wrote you a
very hurried letter
yesterday about the
speech. I do not think
the mistake I mentioned
was in the copy in
your paper but I found
it in the Tribune which
as your father
then seen puzzles me.
About the monument,
Mr Daniel Wall
mistaken in saying your
Father purchased the
one he selected it was
expressly said that
Page

the purchase depended
upon your approval
of the same. Aunty
agrees with us in liking
that depicted in the
Pictoral, but she
would much prefer
granite to marble.
Can granite be obtained
in Albany? and what
is your opinion? I
preferred a grey to
a white stone but
your father seemed
to be pleased with the
marble so I did
not make a point
of it.

I will write to your
father on the subject
and let you know.
He left here yesterday
morning for N. York
where he will probably
be the remainder of the
week & then go to
Orange County. Aunty
stays at least two
weeks from next
Saturday. When will
you come home?
Caroline
went to Niagara &
returned with Father.
What will be the height
of the monument as
Page

represented in the picture?
All send love. Dieu
vous garde. Your
Mother.
