to day recd my first mail since I left Belle Plains
& with other your good letter of the 20h which makes
me feel that I can never fully appreciate the love
of all at home. I am in full hopes however
of being able to return to you all again after
this campaign as I have no presentiment
Previous conception, sentiment, or opinion; previous apprehension of something future •
whatso-
ever that I am to be killed. Do not allow your-
self to feel too much anxiety on my account
as I shall take good care of myself and the
exposure & life so far seems to agree with
me perfectly, while most of my officers
or many of them at least are more or less
unwell I find that I have ^no^ trouble on that
score. the diet I presume has much to do with
it one of my men captured a reble cow near
Hanover C. H. so that I have fresh milk
twice a day. it would amuse you to see

her marching in rear of the Regt along with
the horses. In the engagement of the 1st & 3d
the 9th did admirably and I think have fully
proved that they were capable of doing fighting
as well as garrison duty. I have seen Mac
