Newport, Aug 4th
Saturday
My dear Father,
We left New York
at 5 yesterday afternoon. The boat
was crowded with passengers, but
Wakeman

had arranged with the
Captain

, who made our voyage as
comfortable as possible. We found
Mr Sumner
Birth: 1785-02 Death: 1866-06-15
on board, and heard
of Gov. Morgan
Birth: 1811-02-08 Death: 1883-02-14
. We arrived
here at daybreak, and are comfortably

installed in Mr Barreda’s

luxurious
and beautiful house, overlooking the
sea. He regrets much not to have
you come also, and hopes you may
by & by. He handed me your note
of Thursday, when I came down to
breakfast. The Asta Buruagas

I found everybody in New York,
including Mr Weed

cheerful over
the prospects, politically, at Saratoga,
Philadelphia, and among the people.
Affectionately,
