Newport, Aug 14th
My dear Father,
After breakfast
this morning, we drove down to
Samuel Blatchford’s
Birth: 1820-03-09 Death: 1893-07-07
and found
there Mr
Birth: 1798-04-23 Death: 1875-09-04
& Mrs R. M. Blatchford
Birth: 1819-11-13 Death: 1868-11-10
who arrived today from New York,
and Mrs Daniel Webster
Birth: 1797-09-28 Death: 1882-02-26
. All
inquired much about you, and
were in yhopes you would accept
Mr Barreda’s
Birth: 1827 Death: 1883
invitation and stop
here on your way back to Washington.
We went today to see the
“Spouting Rock,” which under the
south east wind and heavy sea,
is very fine.
Today is the Philadelphia Conven-
tion. I hope the mail which
brings us news of it tomorrow, will
bring a letter from you, as I have
not heard since your telegram of
Saturday.
Affectionately yours
F.W.S
