Auburn
Friday. 17th Aug./66
My dearest Father,
Last night brought
my hoped for letter from
you. I was very glad
to hear of your safe
arrival – and that you
were able to sleep on
the way.
We have sunshine today,
and milder air. My
drive this morning was
out Genesee St. Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29

and Jenny
Birth: 1839-11-18 Death: 1913-11-09
are gone to Port
Byron
this afternoon.
Ellen Perry

has just

gone, after spending
an hour with me.
Mr. Seymour
Birth: 1791-04-15 Death: 1875-12-03
made
me a call this afternoon
and brought me some
sweet bright flowers.
Dear kind soul, he seemed
to have it at heart
to inquire into my
spiritual condition –
His questions seemed a
little strange to me –
when I found my-
self expected to reply –
but he seemed to
find the answers
satisfactory – though
I felt perhaps more
reserve than I manifested.

Matters so deep and
so sacred are not easy
to speak of commonly –
Last evening we had
a serenade from a
Syracuse band – the same
which accompanied the
75th Reg’t – Will re-
ceived the members in
the hall, & entertained
them ̶ excusing himself
from making a speech.
The remainder of the
evening I spent over
the “Daily”, the Tribune,
& Times—chiefly on
the subject of the
Philadelphia Convention.

I read also of the move-
ments of Queen Emma's
Birth: 1836-01-02 Death: 1885-04-25
. Thank
you for the duplicate cards
of invitation to her & Miss
Spurgeon
Unknown
. The papers tell
us of Mr. Frederick Seward
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25

at Willard’s to escort them,
did the Col.
Unknown
undertake
that matter?
I feel very well this evening
I finish my letter – begun
before dinner – by twilight
Will and Jenny have returned.
Mary Martin
Birth: 1838-05-05 Death: 1884-01-26
came last
evening to bring me some
exquisite flowers, & a
dainty dish from their
table. Love to Gus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
.
Most affectionately your daughter,
Fanny
