Auburn. Sunday.
19th August 1866.
My dearest Father,
Your letter of the 17th came
last night. The papers of the
evening brought us the proclam-
tion – and brought also divers
conflicting accounts concerning
the Queen
Birth: 1836-01-02 Death: 1885-04-25
and her visit to
you. So I was glad to
sit complacently in my rocking
chair – with your letter on
the table beside me – and say
"how little the newspapers know
of the real state of affairs!"
Ellen Perry
Birth: 1844-09-14 Death: 1920-04-14
& Nettie Gray
Birth: 1841 Death: 1925-09-18

were here last evening. Today
I have had a visit from
Ellen and one from Mary
Titus
Birth: 1846-01-11 Death: 1913-03-14
, who has been away
during the week.
Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
was coming down
to dinner – but it rained
so hard that she was
kept at home.
I send Mrs Baker's
Birth: 1817-09-21 Death: 1903-02-09
letter
of which I wrote to you
when you were at home.
Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
goes off again
tomorrow – to New York and
Harrisburg – expecting to be absent
most of the week.
I have had no chill today,
and less fever than yesterday.

I am following Dr Norris's
Birth: 1828-03-09 Death: 1895-11-10
sugges-
tions – stay in my room till
afternoon – breakfast before I
rise – lie down whenever I
am tired – I think it is
doing me good – for when I
do go down stairs I feel
fresh and strong for the remainder
of the day – from dinner
time till ten o'clock.
The building makes more
visible progress now that they
are at work on the brick.
The window frames are in –
and the spaces between are
partly filled up with bricks.
The papers say that
Mr Stanton
Birth: 1814-12-19 Death: 1869-12-24
will not be one

of the party of excursionists. I
hope the newspapers are
mistaken. Jenny
Birth: 1839-11-18 Death: 1913-11-09
&
I will be greatly disappoint-
ed if we cannot have him
for our guest.
Most affectionately your daughter
Fanny
