Letter written by Olive Risley Seward for William H.
SewardAuburn June 6 1870
My dear Agustus
I received your letter
of the 31st ult, and was glad to
know that you have reached
your new post Charleston and
Richmond assumed a greater
responsibility and manifested
more desperate ambition in
initiating secession than any
other of our cities.
I think they experiencing

its calamities more than any
other cities but I trust
the occasion for maintaining
armed forces in any part
of the South, may soon pass
away in the opinion of other
men, as it has long passed
away in my opinion.
We all are very well
and are enjoying a more
delightful season than I have
ever known in this latitude

aware of your change of post
perhaps you ought to write
to him.
