Originally included in March 1, 1871 letter written by Olive
Risley Seward for William Henry Seward and sent to William Seward Jr.
Auburn April 21st
Dear Augustus
I send a copy of Father's
last letter. I hope he is out of India before
this time as the weather is frightfully hot
at this season – Fred
return home this year – & the Randalls
said
when they left him, in China, he had made
up his mind to spend the winter in Rome.
There is a report in Washington that Hattie
found an admirer in her travels – perhaps
she will be married before they return – I think the
news came through Sally Upton
We are all well here and enjoying the fine
weather though not green peas and straw-
berries as you are in Charleston — We had a
telegram from Will
were all going to San Diego & Los Angeles
this week – to be back to California the 20th
Nothing new here excepting Mary Carpenters
[top Margin]
wedding which takes
place on Wednesday
of next week – I see Mrs Watson
daughters often – they always inquire about you
Frances
[right Margin]
I have your letter of the 12th of April
[left Margin] Affectionately Aunty
