Editorial Note

Included with Letter from William Henry Seward to Frederick William Seward, August 23, 1871
I never have time to write as you can easily un-
derstand, but I know you feel assured that
you would hear directly if any thing were amiss
with your father. He is a very well better and
more cheerful than when he left home. His
hands grow gradually more and more helpless
but his general health is wonderfully good
I begin to dread the September storms and
make all possible speed. We have missed
the Weeds

well. I am affectionately yours
