Editorial Note

Written by Olive Risley Seward for William Henry Seward
Woodside . Sept Aug. 30
My dear Frederick,
Mr. Derby
Birth: 1818 Death: 1892
wrote on the
28th inst. that Mr. Gutman
Birth: 1838-04-28 Death: 1879-02-19
had
drawn on Appleton and Company
for one hundred and twenty five
dollars, which will be paid, but
Derby suggests that the drafts
for this special purpose come
from me or my Attorney. In
this he seems to ignore the
fact that the copying is at

the expense of the publisher.
You will please act as my
Attorney in this matter of
Gutman, and while sanctioning
the drafts, take care to have the
book relieved on my part from
the cost.
Affectionately,
William H. Seward
To.
Frederick W. Seward, Esq.
