Robert Charles Winthrop was an American lawyer and philanthropist and one time Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. He was a descendant of John Winthrop. His first wife was Elizabeth Cabot Blanchard (1809-1842) whom he married in 1832 and with whom he had three children. After Elizabeth's death, in 1849, he married Laura (nee Derby) Welles Winthrop. After Laura's death he later married Adele Granger Thayer, daughter of Francis Granger.
