Biography

A prominent businessman, lawyer, and citizen of Auburn. Cook's family moved to Auburn when he was 3 years old (1825). He studied law with George Rathbun and WHS before being admitted to the bar in 1844. He began practicing law in Cayuga County and served as Justice of the Peace in 1846. He was then chosen to be County Treasurer by Cayuga County's board of supervisors. After the position was made an elective position, he was elected for 15 consecutive years. He was one of the founders of the Cayuga County Savings Bank, serving as a trustee and as its president at different points. He was also the treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church.
