Biography

French Educator for Napoleon Bonaparte and Marie Antoinette. Served as Lady-in-Waiting to Marie Antoinette from 1774-1792. After the French Revolution, she opened a prominent school for girls, where she taught two of Napoleon's sisters. During Napoleonic years in France, she proposed that women learn more than simply reading and writing, such as modern languages, science, history, geography, and math. She also had a unique attitude toward the punishment of children, believing that punishment should neither be excessive nor often repeated.
