Biography

Married to Elizabeth Pollit (1834-1852) before marrying Susan Bullitt in 1853. Archibald Dixon was Senator from 1852-1855 for Kentucky. He was born near Redhouse, Caswell County, N.C. and in 1805 he and his parents moved to Henderson County, KY. Dixon was educated by his mother and attended common schools. He then studied law and in 1824 he was admitted to the bar. He began practicing in Henderson, KY. In 1830 and 1841 he was elected as a member of the Kentucky house of representatives. He was elected to the State senate 1836 adn served as lieutenant governor of Kentucky in 1843. In 1849 he became a member of the State constitutional convention. He served in the United States Senate as a Whig from September 1, 1852 to March 3, 1855, having been elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Henry Clay, but he was not a candidate for reelection in 1854 and resumed practicing law. He was also engaged as a planter and died in Henderson, KY.
